What are Counterfeit and Knockoff Products?
- Counterfeiting refers to the unauthorised use of a trademark that is identical or very similar to another’s registered trademark on the same goods covered by the registration or on its packaging.
- Products that are commonly counterfeited include:
- Jewellery from luxury brands, such as necklaces, bracelets and cufflinks
- Branded clothing items
- Designer bags and leather goods, such as handbags and wallets
- Branded footwear
- Luxury phone cases, earphone cases and keychains
- Products that are commonly counterfeited include:
- "Knockoffs", also known as "lookalike" or "copycat" products refer to products that resemble branded, authentic products, but are not identical to them. They typically lack an identical trademark or logo of the brand they are trying to imitate and are often of lower quality or priced lower than the original goods they imitate. Knockoffs may also have a similar trademark, logo, color compositions, packaging, product design and/or “get-up” (where applicable) to the original goods they imitate.

What are some best practices for avoiding counterfeit and knockoff products?
- Sell and fulfill only authentic products with prior authorisation from the brand owner.
- It is good practice to maintain relevant and credible documentation that certifies the authenticity of the advertised products.
- Do not create, post, upload, stream or share content related to counterfeit products.
How do I avoid listing counterfeit and knockoff products?
When advertising, you must avoid:- Displaying any unauthorised brand names, trademarks or logos in any forms of content, including the product details page, videos and livestreams.
- Brand circumvention practices, such as intentionally blurring or hiding any brand names or logos.
- Behaviors and/or written or verbal messages that imply the sale of counterfeit products.
What should I do if I receive an IPR infringement notice in error?
If you receive an IPR infringement notification that you believe is in error or you believe you are authorized to use the product and/or content, you can reach out to the IPR owner directly to request a retraction. What happens if I breach these guidelines?
If you are found to violate these guidelines, you may have enforcement actions taken against your account.
